Compare regional plans
A Thailand-only plan is usually cheaper; a regional or global eSIM becomes useful when the same trip continues abroad.
Networks and coverage
Thailand’s principal networks are AIS, TrueMove H and dtac. uPhone lists all three for its Thailand product, with 4G/LTE and 5G where available. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the main resort areas are straightforward; speed and signal can still vary on ferries, remote beaches and mountain roads.
Do not select a plan on the 5G badge alone. Grab, Google Maps, translation and calls work well over stable 4G. Network access, supported frequency bands, congestion and the phone itself matter more than the headline label.
Bangkok, Phuket, Samui or the north?
- Bangkok: coverage is rarely the limiting factor. Data use rises through ride-hailing, maps and food delivery.
- Phuket and Krabi: ordinary tourist areas are well served; download tickets and maps before boat transfers.
- Koh Samui and smaller islands: expect local variation around hills, coves and ferry routes.
- Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Pai: cities have good service, while rural mountain stretches can be less consistent.
Install before departure
- Check that the phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
- Buy and install the profile using dependable Wi-Fi.

Calls, Grab and your existing number
The compared travel eSIMs are data products rather than Thai telephone lines. Grab works with mobile data, while WhatsApp and Telegram normally keep the account registered to your existing number. Keep the home SIM enabled if you need bank verification messages, but turn off data roaming on it to prevent accidental charges.
